Ana Cristina Bicharra Garcia graduated in Civil Engineering at Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), M.Sc. (1989) and Ph.D. (1992) in Artificial Intelligence (AI) at the University of Stanford,  USA. She spent one year at Stanford, 2002-2003, as visiting professor and one year, at MIT as visiting researcher in 2013. Upon entering the workforce at EMBRATEL in 1985 as a system analyst, she had her first contact with research on Artificial Intelligence. Seven years later,  she became an expert, researching and developing technologies in AI. She was a consultant at XEROX/PARC. In 1994, she became a professor at the Computer Science Department of the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF).

Her time is divided between teaching and research in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Collective Intelligence, Ambient Intelligence (Internet of Things) and Interaction Computer-Man. In 1996, Ana Cristina Bicharra Garcia created the ADDLabs, Artificial Intelligence Research Lab of the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF), and coordinated it until 2017. She continues as a collaborative researcher.

She works in several research projects in cooperation with national and international Universities. Currently, she coordinates two research projects, funded by CNPq, with the Universidad Carlos III of Madrid and other with MIT.
